Opening of the Exhibition “Masterpieces of the 20th Century” from the Collection of the Valencia Institute of Modern Art (IVAN). Moscow Museum of Modern Art, 25 Petrovka street, Moscow

On June 7, 2011 in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art opened an exhibition “Masterpieces of the 20th Century” from the collection of the Valencia Institute of Modern Art (IVAM). The exhibition has been organized within Russia-Spain Cross Culture Year 2011.  The President of the Russian Academy of Arts, Director of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art Zurab Tsereteli took part in the press-conference on the opening of the exhibition.

Pierre Cardin Visited the Russian Academy of Arts

On June 6, 2011 the celebrated fashion designer Pierre Cardin came to Moscow to present the world premiere of his new collection in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight. Upon his arrival to the Russian capital Pierre Cardin, an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, visited the Russian Academy of Arts where he had a friendly meeting with its President Zurab Tsereteli.

Monument to Joseph Brodsky Sculpted by the People’s Artist of Russia George Frangulyan Was Unveiled in Moscow

On May 30, 2011 in Novinsky Boulevard in Moscow was unveiled a monument to the poet Joseph Brodsky, who had been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The sculptor of the monument is the People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts George Franfulyan. The architect is Sergey Skuratov. The sculptural composition depicts the figure of the poet standing in the center of the granite base between two groups of people.

Annual Yury Orekhov Prizes Were Awarded to Young Sculptors

On May 31, 2011 in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street, was held the 7th annual award ceremony for Yury Orekhov Prizes in the field of sculpture. The Prize was set up in 2005 by the “Creative Legacy of Academician Yury Orekhov” Museum and the “Sculptor” Foundation for Support to Russian Sculptors under the auspices of the Russian Academy of Arts to foster young talented sculptors.

The Highest Award of the Russian Academy of Arts Was Presented to Zurab Tsereteli, Gennady Pravotorov and Ushang Kozaev

At the session of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts on May 24, 2011 the highest award of the Russian Academy of Arts – the Golden Cross for Services to Art was presented to the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR and the Russian Federation Zurab Tsereteli; Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Gennady Pravotorov; Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honored Artist of  North Ossetia  and People’s Artist of South Ossetia Ushang Kozaev.

Diplomas and Prizes Were Presented to Winners of the “Man and Space” International Competition in Honor of the 50th Anniversary of the First Manned Space Flight

On May 17, 2011at the session of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts attended by guests of honor – N.S. Koroleva, daughter of the Designer General Sergey Korolev and Alexey Leonov, spaceman, the first human to conduct a space walk, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts - there was an award ceremony for winners of the “Man and Space” International Competition organized by the Russian Academy of Arts in honor of the first manned space flight of Yury Gagarin.

Award Ceremony at the Russian Academy of Arts

At the award ceremony on May 13, 2011 the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli presented the regalia of an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts to the eminent statesman, Great Chancellor of the French National Order of the Legion of Honor Jean-Louis Georgelin and Her Royal Highness Princess of Orleans Chantal de France for the promotion of humanitarian cooperation and strengthening of cultural ties between Russia and France.

The Bust of Yury Gagarin designed by Zurab Tsereteli Will Be Installed in Colombo, Sri Lanka

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight, at the request of the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka, the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR and the Russian Federation Zurab Tsereteli has created a monument to Yury Gagarin. The bronze bust, 1.0m x 89cm x 70cm, will soon be delivered and installed in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.

Academician Valery Maloletkov Will Chair the International Jury of the 15th Competition of Children’s Art “The Wave of Fantasy” in Sochi

The 15th  “Wave of Fantasy” competition of children’s art will take place in Sochi  from May till September 2011.  The participants are young artists at the age of 4 – 17 from 50 Russian regions and other countries: Bulgaria, India, Rumania, Belorus, Slovenia, Ukraine. The Chairman of the International Jury is Valery Maloletkov, the People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Professor of S. Stroganov Moscow State University of Industrial and Applied Arts.

Presentation of the “Park of the New World” Project Within the Framework of the Visit of Zurab Tsereteli to Puerto Rico

Solo Show of Works by Zurab Tsereteli in Zvenigorod

The Zvenigorod State History, Architecture and Art Museum presents a solo show of works by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR and the Russian Federation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Zurab Tsereteli.
