On March 19, 2011 a memorial plaque commemorating the Russian economist and politician Yegor Gaidar was unveiled on the building of the “Y. Gaidar Institute of Economic Policy” (3-5 Gazetny Lane, building 1), where he had worked from 1993 till 2009. The memorial plaque has been designed by the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, sculptor Mickail Pereyaslavets in partnership with the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, architect Vyacheslav Bukhaev.

The 7th Moscow International Festival “Fashion and Style in Photography 2011” started in Multimedia Art Museum (16 Ostozhenka street, Moscow) on March 15, 2011 with the show of works by the renowned master of photography Lucien Clergue “Jean Cocteau and the Testament of Orpheus” and an exposition from his collection of photographs “Dedication to Marlene Dietrich” organized under the support of the French Embassy in Moscow, the French Institute, OAO “Novatek” and Ahmad Tea Co.

On March 10, 2011 at the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street, there was the 572nd General Academy Assembly of the Russian Academy of Arts (RAA), the supreme body of the RAA management. The Assembly was addressed by the RF President’s Advisor for Culture and Art Yuri Laptev who had noted the significant role of the Academy in the preservation of the best traditions of Russian fine arts and architecture, as well as in the formation of the contemporary art process.

On March 4, 2011 in the Museo di San Salvatore in Lauro in Rome there was an opening of a solo exhibition of works by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR and the Russian Federation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Zurab Tsereteli.

On February 14, 2011 the Ministry of Culture in partnership with the Russian Academy of Arts held a press-conference on the competition to be arranged within the framework of the Grant “For the Revival of Classical Traditions of Russian Painting”. On February 1, 2011 the President of the Russian Academy of Arts presented the new Order of the Russian Academy of Arts “For Services to Art” to Efrem Zverkov, People’s Artist of the USSR, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, laureate of State Prizes of the Russian Federation. The award ceremony has been timed to the artist’s 90th anniversary. Efrem Zverkov is one of the leading Russian masters of landscape painting who actively continues to work in spite of his advanced age. He is not only creating new artworks, but also shares his experience and knowledge with young artists who due to his efforts keep up the succession of traditions of Russian landscape painting. The master’s canvases and works of his pupils are on show in honor of his jubilee in the exhibition halls of the Russian Academy of Arts.

On February 1, 2011 in Ekaterinburg there was an unveiling ceremony for the monument to the first Russian President Boris Yeltsin attended by the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev. The monument has been designed by the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Georgi Frangulyan.

Moscow, January 13. /ITAR-TASS Correspondent Olga Svistunova/. The Russian Academy of Arts (RAA) will open a large-scale exhibition in Palermo. The vernisage in Sicily is scheduled for January 28. The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli said about it today to the ITAR-TASS correspondent. “We have decided to start with the Sicilian project”, noted the President of the RAA. “It will be followed by three more big shows in Rome, Milan and Ancona. All of them are to be organized as part of the Year of Russian Culture and Language in Italy – 2011”.

The prize was initiated by the Honorary Citizen of Tver Region, People’s Artist of the USSR, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Efrem Zverkov in 2007. This year the prize was awarded to winners of the painting competition organized by the Committee for Culture of Tver Region and A.G. Venetsianov Tver Regional Art College.

<P>On December 20, 2010 a memorial plaque commemorating the first Director-General of AvtoVAZ Company, Minister of Automobile Industry of the USSR (1975-1986), Hero of Socialist Labor Victor Polyakov was unveiled on the house where he had lived in Moscow, 6 Kholzunov Lane. The memorial plaque has been designed by the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, sculptor Philip Rukavishnikov in partnership with the architect Michael Korsy.

The memorial plaque commemorating the eminent architect Michael Posokhin was unveiled on December 13, 2010 on the façade of a high-rise designed by Michael Posokhin. Built in Kudrinskaya Square it has become one of the landmarks of Moscow. The memorial plaque created by the sculptor Ivan Kazansky features the architect’s high relief portrait and fragments of his most distinguished buildings.

On December 11, 2010 in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street, Moscow there was an award ceremony for the Central Federal District Prize in Literature and Arts. The annual Prize for the most distinguished works in literature and arts was initiated seven years ago by the Russian President’s Plenipotentiary in the Central Federal District Georgi Poltavchenko.
