The first in Germany monument to the Russian Empress Catherine the Great, born Princess Sophie Auguste Friderike von Anhalt-Zerbst was unveiled in the city of Zerbst on July 9, 2010. It has been designed by the renowned sculptor, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Michael Pereyaslavets.

On July 6, 2010 the Plenipotentiary of the Republic of North Ossetia under the Russian President Alexander Totoonov presented the highest award of the Republic of North Ossesia-Alania - “To the Glory of Ossetia” to the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli for his monument to victims of Beslan. The monument was unveiled on June 1, 2010 in the downtown of Moscow in front of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin at Kulishki, 5/2 Solyanka street.

The UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Zurab Tsereteli participated in the 10th Annual Meeting of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors that took place in the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on June 24, 2010. 08/06/2010 RIA Novosti – The President of the Russian Academy of Arts is leaving for the United States – to open his solo show in the halls of the National Arts Club and to receive the Gold Medal of Honor for his significant role in the promotion of art. In various years the winners of this prestigious award were Salvador Dali, Jeff Koons, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, and now it will be presented to Tsereteli for his contribution to the promotion of cultural ties between Russia and the United States. From America Zurab Tsereteli will go to Paris to foster closer relations between Russia and France. On the eve of his visit the sculptor spoke about history, art education, royalties and Andrei Voznesensky with RIA Novosti reporter Ann Shelepova.

The exhibition project of the Russian Academy of Arts “Russia-France: Three Centuries of Cultural Ties” to be launched in Paris on June 11, 2010 aims to show the history and main development stages of the Academy of Arts in Russia. One of the principle goals of the project is to specify the originality of the Russian academic art school, as well as to emphasize the significant role of the French culture, the contribution of the French eminent figures of architecture, fine arts and science to the formation of Russian art and academic art school representing a unique model of classical art education based on the centuries-old European fine arts development.

The Annual National Arts Club’s Gold Medal of Honor has been awarded to Zurab Tsereteli for his significant role in the promotion of art. Zurab Tsereteli is the first Russian artist who received this one of the most prestigious American awards in the field of culture. The Gold Medal of Honor was presented to the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli on June 4 by the National Arts Club’s President O. Aldon James at the ceremony within the framework of the annual Festival “Our Legacy” launched in New York. Aldon James noted that in various years the award winners had been Salvador Dali, Robert Rauschenberg, Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein and other eminent figures of arts, reports ITAR-TASS.

On June 1, 2010 the Chairman of the Council of Federation Sergei Mironov visited V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute at the invitation of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, where he was shown works by its senior students and graduates. On June 1, in Moscow was unveiled a memorial to victims of the school hostage siege in the North Ossetian-Alanian town of Beslan on September 1-3, 2004.
