On March 23, 2007 the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli was awarded the <a href="http://portal.unesco.org/en/ev.php-URL_ID=26454&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_SECTION=201.html" target="blank">UNESCO Picasso Gold Medal</a>. The UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura noted, that in the year of the 250th Anniversary of the foundation of the Russian Academy of Arts this would be a fitting manner to pay tribute to the venerable and outstanding institution as well as to the remarkable personal contribution of Zurab Tsereteli in developing the Russian Academy of Arts as one of the most prestigious institutions devoted to art education and to promotion of cultural dialogue at the international level and the exchange of ideas between artists of all European nations.

February 28, 2007, Tokyo. The unveiling ceremony for the monument to the 52nd Japanese Prime Minister Itiro Hatoyama is going to be attended by the Japanese and Russian honorary guests, including Prime-Minister of the Russian Federation Michail Fradkov, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Japan Michail Belyi, Deputy Mayor of Moscow Joseph Ordjonikidze, President of the Russian Academy of Arts and sculptor of the monument Zurab Tsereteli, Japanese Prime-Minister, Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan, Chairman of the House pf Representatives, members of the Hatoyama family.
A reception will be hosted after the ceremony to award diplomas to the Chairman of the 21st Century Russian Committee Yuri Luzhkov and President of the Russian Academy of Arts and designer of the monument Zurab Tsereteli.

The Russian Academy of Arts headed by Zurab Tsereteli since 1997 was conceived and established as an educational entity. Throughout its history, the oldest Russian cultural institution has obtained a variety of new functions. Nowadays, the Russian Academy of Arts is a premier state creative and research entity combining prominent artists and creative people of the nation. Since the outset of the Academy, education has remained the most significant element of its multisided activity.

On September 11, 2006 in the United States in the city of Bayonne, New Jersey there was a dedication ceremony for the monument to the struggle against world terrorism. The monument by Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of Russia, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador stands opposite lower Manhattan where the World Trade Center towers stood and about three thousand people became victims of the attacks. The monumental composition was presented as a gift from the Russian President Vladimir Putin, the people of Russia to the people of the United States on the fifth anniversary of the tragedy symbolizing, that Russia, which also experienced acts of terrorism not once, shared the grief of losses with the United States.
