The Imperial Order of St. Anna Was Awarded to the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli

On March 6, 2013 at the ceremony in Tsereteli Art Gallery (19 Prechistenka street, Moscow) the Head of Imperial House of Russia, Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna Romanova presented the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli with the Dynastic Order of St. Anna awarded to him as a recognition of his outstanding professional and charitable activity in Russia and other countries.

The Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna Romanova has arrived in Russia with a delegation of the Romanov Imperial House of Russia on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Romanov House that is being celebrated this year.

As it was noted in the welcoming address by the Director of the Chancellery of Her Imperial Highness Alexander Zakatov, Zurab Tsereteli in the 1990s had also provided his assistance in the transfer of the remains of the Grand Duchess’s grandmother and grandfather – Prince Georgiy Alexandrovich (Head of the Georgian Royal House) and his spouse Princess Elena Sigizmundovna to Mtskheta – burial place of Georgian kings.

The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli presented the Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna with the regalia of an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

The Imperial Order of St. Anna was established on February 14, 1735 by Karl Friedrich Holstein-Gottorp in honor of his spouse Anna Petrovna on the day of the 20th anniversary of their wedding. Emperor Paul I of Russia established the Order as part of the Imperial Russian system of honors. Hereditary recipients of the Order of St. Anna have been members of the Russian Imperial House. Since 1917 only the head of the Imperial House of Russia has been entitled to award the Order.
