Inauguration of the Federal Military Memorial Cemetery in the Mytishchinsky District of the Moscow Region

On June 22, 2013 - Day of Memory and Grief in Russia - there was an inauguration of a Federal Military Memorial Cemetery in the Mytishchinsky District of the Moscow Region attended by the Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu. He has noted, that the uniqueness of the Federal Military Cemetery is not so much in its size. “It is aimed at being a place for commemoration of outstanding people of Russia who made distinguished contribution to the Motherland. “Many  professionals have been involved in the construction of the memorial to serve as a symbol of our national glory” – said General of the Army Sergey Shoygu.  

The new military pantheon is a memorial and sculptural complex located on 53 hectares includes 78 works of art - obelisks of Glory, an alley of Heroes, steles and sculptural compositions.  It has been designed by a team of architects and artists headed by the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Sergey Goryayev   (members of the team: V.A. Chudnovtsev, V.V. Belousov, E.S. Danilchenko, N.V. Dikov, Y.P. Eliseev, D.G. Kuznetsov, G.V. Kurdov, A.N. Ryzhkin, E.N. Ryzhkina, S.M. Shvedov, A.V. Yakimenko, N.I. Anikina).
