Presentation of the New Testament Book Illustrated by the People’s Artist of Russia Myud Mechev at the Russian Academy of Arts

The Russian Academy of Arts invites you to attend a presentation of the New Testament book (Ostrova Publishing House, Petrozavodsk, 2013) with 250 graphic illustrations to the Acts of the Apostles, Epistles of the Apostles, Book of Revelation by the distinguished Russian graphic artist Myud Mechev, People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Myud Mechev, that will take place in the White Hall of the RAA, 21 Prechistenka street, on October 28, 2013 at 2 pm.

Born in 1929, Myud Mechev is an author of over 300 illustrations to books of the Gospel published in 2008 and appreciated by the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts. For many years he worked in Karelia on illustrations to the Finnish National Epic Kalevala, from 1975 Myud Mechev devoted more than 15 years to his work on illustrations to “The Primary Chronicle” (“Tale of Bygone Years”), the first Russian chronicle on the formation of the Russian state and Christianization of Russia.  

Myud Mechev is a Laureate of I. Repin State Prize of the Russian Federation, Honored Art Worker of Karelia. Myud Mechev has been decorated with a Big Silver Medal of the Government of Finland and a medal of Elias Lonnrot, he is a Chevalier of the Order of White Rose 1st Rank (Finland). Pope John Paul II awarded the artist a Silver Medal of the Pontificate for humanism and achievements in art.

Works by Myud Mechev are in collections of major museums in Russia and other countries, as well as in collections of the Library of the U.S. National Congress, the Vatican, National Bank of Finland and others.
