The Russian Academy of Arts Participates in the 2nd St. Petersburg Cultural Forum

On December 3, 2013 the Russian Academy of Arts participated in the 2nd St. Petersburg Cultural Forum. It is a unique international platform for annual meetings, open dialogues and exchange of experience between specialists in culture and cultural policy, representatives of the Government, politicians and businessmen.

The Forum is annually organized by the Government of the Russian Federation under the auspices of the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Culture,   Ministry of Press and Mass Communications, as well as the Government of St. Petersburg. It is aimed at preservation and promotion of Russian culture, support of initiatives at the regional, federal and international levels, development of international cooperation in culture. The principle theme of the 2nd St. Petersburg Cultural Forum is holding of the Year of Culture in Russia in 2014 in accordance with the Edict of the Russian President Vladimir Putin. The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli took part in the Forum’s Plenary Session.

On December 3, 2013 within the Art Education program at I.Repin St. Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture there was an International Assembly of Academies of Arts which focus was a conference “Academic Art Education: Experience in the System’s Reformation”. The Conference was attended by the Vice-President Olga Golodets, Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, Vice-Governor Vasily Kicherdji.

The Conference is of special significance taking into account the current reorganization of institutions of higher education and state academies in Russia. The Conference has dealt with such problems as peculiarities of academic educational institutions in the world comprising in their structures museums, research libraries and archives; analysis of the experience of major Academies of Arts in the world; the place and role of art schools in the cultural life; goals of art education in today’s world of new technologies and innovations and possibilities of integrated study and professional training; exchange of students and teachers, etc. The Conference resulted in signing a Resolution on International Cooperation of the Academies of Arts aimed at strengthening the significance of fundamental art education and promotion of mutually beneficial interaction.
