The ceremony of spiritual unity at the Nakashima Peace Table

On February 11, 2014 in the Hall of Peace of the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts at the Nakashima Peace Table there was a ceremony of spiritual unity with participants of the dedication ceremony for the Nakashima Scared Peace Table for South Asia, that simultaneously was being held in the Indian city of Auroville. The Sacred Peace Table was presented by George Nakashima as a gift to peoples of Russia and all Europe and consecrated at the Russian Academy of Arts in 2001.  

The ceremony was attended by the Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Center in Moscow Mr. Bandaru Wilsonbabu, Chief Scientific Secretary of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts (RAA) Oleg Koshkin, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Andrey Zolotov, First Deputy President of the RAA Sergey Kolov, Friends of the Nakashima Peace Table project from the Society of Friends, Quakers, members of the Russian Academy of Arts.  

Before the ceremony rose petals were placed on the table and the reading of the Blessing on the above occasion sent by Mira Nakashima, President of George Nakashima Foundation for Peace started at 03.30 pm Moscow time / 05.00 pm in India. The similar ceremony of reading the Blessing at the Peace Table took place in New York at 06.30 am. Nakashima felt that each Sacred Peace Table would “be a symbol, a token of man’s aspirations for a creative and beautiful peace”.

The attendees also read quotations on peace and expressed their hope that all problems in the world would be resolved through negotiations and peace would be in each man’s soul. The ceremony was finished with a single tone of the bell.
