The Russian Academy of Arts and Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts of the Russian Academy of Arts invite you to attend a panel discussion “The Art of Criticism: XIX-XXI” dedicated to the 190th birth anniversary of the  Russian critic Vladimir Stasov (1824-1906), that will take place in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts (21 Prechistenka street, Moscow) on March 20, 2014 at 11.00.  

There will be discussed a wide range of problems connected with the analysis of trends in the development of art criticism in the context of art history and today’s cultural process, as well as aesthetic, theoretical and creative peculiarities of the criticism as an art of word and special sphere of the expression of art history. The 190th birth anniversary of Vladimir Stasov, a unique personality and multi-sided talent who very much influenced the formation of the genre of art criticism in Russia is a good opportunity to turn to his legacy and to exchange opinions on the humanitarian features of criticism as an art in the past and future.
