Monument to the Duke Karl Peter Ulrich of Holstein-Gottorp by Alexander Taratynov Was Unveiled in the German City of Kiel



On June 14, 2014 in the Palace Park of the German city of Kiel there was an unveiling ceremony for the monument to the Duke Karl Peter Ulrich of Holstein-Gottorp also world known as the Russian Emperor Peter III. The monument has been designed by the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Taratynov.    

The monument was initiated by the Tsar’s  Society of Kiel founded in 2008 to study the monarch’s biography. He was born as Karl Peter Ulrich in the port city of Kiel on the shores of the Baltic Sea in 1728 which was a capital of the Duchy of Holstein-Gottorp. In 1762 he was assassinated as a result of conspiracy and succeeded to the throne by his consort Catherine II.
