In Memory of the Noted Russian Art Historian, Academician Valeri Turchin (1941-2015)



On February 5, 2015 in Moscow passed away Valeri Turchin, noted Russian Art Historian, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Doctor of Art History, Honorary Professor and Head of the Chair for Russian Art History of M. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Vice-President of the Russian National Committee of the International Committee for Art Historians.

Valeri Turchin was an internationally recognized art historian, a specialist in both  Western European and Russian art of the 13th – 20th century. He was an author of 24 monographs and over 250 articles in scientific editions and magazines. All his works are part of the golden fund of Russian art history, they are distinguished by his thorough knowledge, great erudition, impeccable literary language.  

For 45 years Valery Turchin has taught the history of art at the Moscow State University, was a founder of the Modern Art School “Free Workshops” of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. His friends and colleagues will remember him as the most  intelligent and friendly man. The burial service and parting ceremony will take place on February 7, 2015 at the Church of Resurrection in Kadashi (Second Kadashevsky Pereulok  7) at 13.00.
